31 Days of Halloween - Day 21 - Movie 2

In A Dark and Stormy Night (2009), a group of people gather at a spooky mansion to hear the reading of the will of Sinas Cavender, on a night when the 300-year old ghost of Sarah Cavender is supposed to return and when a killer, known as the Cavender Strangler, is on the loose. The bulk of the estate goes to  Cavender's ward, Sabasha Fanmoore. There's an amendment to the will which goes missing, murders, escaped lunatics, a gorilla, a psychic, contact with a spirit from beyond, secret compartments, suspicious characters, and plenty of slapstick and verbal hijinks in this affectionate spoof of the "old dark house" subgenre of horror and mystery films.

The film was written and directed by Larry Blamire, who is also one of the featured characters. Blamire also directed the brilliantly funny The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra (2001), it's sequel, The Lost Skeleton Returns Again (2009), and Trail of the Screaming Forehead (2007). If you've seen any of those films, then the cast and style of storytelling and humor will be familiar to you when viewing A Dark and Stormy Night. How much you enjoy Dark and Stormy Night will depend on your feelings regarding Blamire's other movies. I found it to be my favorite of his movies after The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, and it was a big hit with the rest of my family. Overall, I found it to be a lot of fun and the cast was great and worked wonderfully together.
